Safe Haven Support Worker

17,305 per annum (pro rata)

Part time position, between 15-20 hours per week. To be worked between 3-4 evening shifts across a 7 day flexible rota

Do you want to support people in crisis, who need urgent support with their mental health?  


We're looking for an individual to support our Safe Haven service, which operates at Heffernan House. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of Herefordshire Mind. You will help to nuture a safe and friendly environment, where people in emotional distress can access support and advice. As a much-needed resource, Safe Haven provides vital out-of-hours mental health support four evenings a week. We will be expanding to 7 evenings a week.

Join a warm and welcoming team, where we aim to prevent the escalation of mental health problems and improve individual wellbeing. Working at Safe Haven can be challenging yet highly fulfilling and rewarding role. You will need to be flexible to meet the needs of service users; working with people at different points of their mental health journey.  

We are open to applications from caring, empathetic individuals who want to do their part towards making sure that no-one in Herefordshire has to face a mental health problem alone.  

We're looking for someone with:  

  • Experience working with vulnerable adults
  • Experience of working in mental health services
  • The ability to deliver high quality service that provides a safe haven for an individual at a point of need in their mental health journey
  • The ability to develop positive, constructive relationships with external agencies
  • A self starter, able to work effectively on own initiaive and as part of a team
  • Understanding and empathy
  • Discretion and sensitivity when dealing with confidential information
  • An effective communicator, who can deal effectively and calmly with challenging situations
