The Shires

Who we are and what we do:

The Shires provides a comfortable and inviting environment for 11 residents. It is situated in a pleasant and scenic position on the outskirts of Hereford, overlooking the historic Lugg Meadows, with the city centre easily accessed by bus.

The service is CQC registered and provides support and structured rehabilitation for adults over the age of 18 with mental health issues.

Our most recent CQC inspection in October 2016 found that all the specified requirements were met to a high standard. The report highlights the positive impact The Shires can have for residents requiring our support.

With support from our experienced and skilled staff:

  • You will be encouraged to take a central role in the creation of your support plan, and to identify your personal goals and aspirations;
  • You will have a named mental health nurse and a key support worker to address your support needs;
  • You will be encouraged and supported to engage in activities that promote social contact, enhance your daily living skills, increase self-esteem and grow your confidence;
  • You will be encouraged and supported to access community projects, take up voluntary work, visit places of interest, and access sports, further education, and leisure activities such as the theatre, concerts and the cinema;

The heart of all we do at The Shires is the promotion of your recovery and the development of your resilience and wellbeing, and through this enabling you to move towards greater independence.

The Shires is ideal for someone who wants to learn new skills and to set them up to move into their own home with support.
