The Shires

Who we are and what we do:

The Shires provides a comfortable and inviting home for 11 people. We provide support and structured rehabilitation for adults over the age of 18 with enduring mental health problems. Situated on the outskirts of Hereford, overlooking the Lugg Meadows, The Shires is a home in the proper sense of the word, for as long as people need it.

Our residents are at the heart of all we do at The Shires. We believe in promoting people's recovery, developing their resilience and wellbeing and enabling them to move towards greater independence.

With support from our experienced and skilled team:

  • Residents take a central role in the creation of their support plan, and work with staff to identify their personal goals and aspirations;
  • Residents have a named mental health nurse and a key support worker to address their support needs;
  • Residents are encouraged and supported to engage in activities that promote social contact, enhance daily living skills, increase self-esteem and grow their confidence, at a pace that is right for them;
  • Residents are encouraged and supported to access community projects, take up voluntary work, visit places of interest, and access sports, further education, and leisure activities such as the theatre, concerts and the cinema
  • The Shires is ideal for someone who wants to learn new skills and to set them up to move into their own home with support.
