One of the leading causes of mental ill-health in the world is anxiety, which is the theme of Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12-18).
Whilst everyone will experience anxiety at some point in their lives, one in 20 adults in the UK will be so seriously affected by an anxiety disorder that it will impact negatively on their quality of life. The anxiety can become so overwhelming that it can cause disturbed sleep, disrupt social and work activities, and even leave people house-bound.
Our colleagues at national Mind have excellent information, advice and guidance on anxiety: http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/anxiety-and-panic-attacks/
The advice includes suggestions on things that individuals might find helpful in reducing anxiety to more manageable levels, including complementary therapies and developing healthy lifestyle options such as minimising caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes and increasing exercise such as regular walking.
Don't forget that Herefordshire Mind, along with the events management and company Fit + Healthy, run the Fit+HealthyMinds Running Club because we believe that good physical health can lead to better mental health. Details of this club can be found through the following link: http://www.herefordshirerunningfestival.co.uk/coaching-advice/running-club/
