Talking Mind with Rose

Rose is our Team Administrator, and she does... well, a bit of everything. When we can get her to leave the office, she enjoys watching films, listening to music and going to the gym.

Hi Rose, how long have you worked for Herefordshire Mind?

I’ve been around since November 2014. I started out as an Apprentice and the rest, as they say, is history.

What are your main responsibilities?

General admin, answering the phone, a bit of HR stuff, managing our social media and updating the website. Oh, and I put Mind Matters together and try to make it look pretty.

What attracted you to the job?

I’m one of those weird people who likes to organise things. Administration seemed like an ideal outlet for that.

I could have done that in any office, really. But I came to Herefordshire Mind because I knew how hard it was to watch a loved one become mentally unwell and have no idea what to do. I wanted to help other people in that situation.

Do you think that your lived experience has helped you?

It’s been useful, as I could use it to put people at ease; I knew what had worked for me when I’d been in their position. But when I first started, it was very hard to rein in my emotions. There were a couple of times where I cried after I put the phone down.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d like to share with everyone?

It is totally OK not to be OK. This goes double for anyone who is trying to support someone else. The people in your life who really matter will not mind, and those who do mind really don’t matter.
