Tips for travelling and mental health
While we were enjoying the sunshine in the Herefordshire Mind office, our thoughts turned to summer holidays and travelling. Travelling can be a great experience, but it can also be very stressful. Large crowds, security measures and unexplained delays affect everyone, but they can be particularly difficult for people with a mental health problem.
We found a brilliant article called "Mental Health and Me: What it’s like to travel with a mental illness" by Franki Napolitano. It is filled with experiences and tips from people with mental illness for overcoming the difficulties of travelling. Stephen Buckley from national Mind is quoted in the article and he had this to say:
“Having a mental health problem can make travelling challenging, especially abroad, but it shouldn’t stop somebody seeing the world.”
Herefordshire Mind is here to make sure that no one has to face a mental health problem alone. Find our more about how you can get involved locally or support us by making a donation.
